Twister/Bass on the move
Twister’s final night at The Palace was massive; huge queue at 9.30 and full
most of the night. Ugly is moving Twister to Casey’s/Cheers

The Palace, home to Bass Station and Twister, arguably the greatest club
Melbourne has seen, is set to close. It was announced last week that The Palace
was conceding its battle with the State Government and would leave by June 12.
Its been hard to confirm info on the whole thing, but here's what seems to be
happening...
- Both Bass and Twister seem to be finishing this coming weekend (June 1/2).
- A good part of the Twister crew is going to Casey's/Cheers on Saturday from
June 9 because its about the only venue with four rooms.
- Some of the Twister crew are opening a place called Neverland later in the
year. Its in South Melbourne. Those in the know say its worth waiting for.
- Bass will be announcing its new home at its final event at The Palace on
Friday.
Its sad to lose The Palace and Twister. Twister started in 1993 and has been
Melbourne's most popular club night for almost all of that time. It blitzed the
Max Moose awards in each of the three years we've run it, taking the main award,
best night, every time. Legendary.

GAVE UP ITS BATTLE AND WILL CLOSE SHORTLY. We're trying to confirm the actual
date because there are a few floating around (June 12 seems like it. Yes, this

Twister has been fantastic lately. The last two times I have been there, the
carpark looked quieter than normal, but inside was twice as busy as it was four

Twister was amazing on Saturday. There were plenty of carparks outside so I
thought it looked quiet, but inside was jam packed and going crazy. It was the
biggest crowd I've seen there for a while - it was awesome.
Why? More important than school holidays and Katie from BB appearing, they've
rejigged the DJ lineup and its great. Four months ago they had a crap DJ in the
main room. He's gone and now the crowd and atmosphere is as good as its ever
been.
With DJs like Dean Thomas, Lee Davies, Phil G and Scotty Erdos in the line-up,
you can't go wrong. - The house room is working well now.
I've been to many of the world's greatest clubs (Privilege in Ibiza, Ministry of
Sound in London, Ra in Las Vegas and many more), but when Twister is like it was
Saturday (even though its not all cutting edge house music and trendy people),
Twister is on that level. If you're young and haven't been, get down there on
Saturday.

The Bert Newton visit is the coolest thing since Harold from neighbours did an
appearance at the Hallam. It'll definitely be worth checking out.
We were down at Twister on Saturday night. It was a very good night - much
busier than our last couple of visits.
Dean Thomas is DJing the main set in the main room now - a good call. The music
mix was much better. Get on board.

It was Mini Mooses' brother's 18th on Saturday, so we had to
give him the best introduction to Melbourne's party scene. Off to Twister we
went.
He and the boys had a great night. It wasn't bad for us either.
I've seen it busier, but with 11,000 at Two Tribes, you'd expect that. It was
still a good night. The week before was a record night.
If you're the one that hasn't been there, there's seven rooms. Front bar: retro.
Main room: retro/top 40. House room: house tunes (that rooms picking up). Back
room: Techno. Corner room: RnB. Then there's two VIP lounge areas. Something for
everyone.

Channel 7 just reported that Twister has been saved.
Reality is that there are still a few more steps to go, but its looking better.
The Palace was under threat of demolition because greedy local Councils and the
State Government wanted to build something else there. It was fun watching the
Planning Minister squirm as he made the announcement.
Today it won a National Heritage Trust award as People's Choice as a Victorian
Icon, putting it in a great place to secure heritage protection.

The venue is pretty trashy and low tech, though the size is good.
I have found the crowd at Twister is non-trouble making.
The security company that is contracted by the Twister team however are
unprofessional - extreamly racist/jealous of the way you dress, etc. They have
destroyed much of Twister reputation potential.

suspect these "famous" people are paid to attend and do not go out of choice. :)

Have been going to Twister for a while and can honestly say i was so
disappointed on Saturday. The house room has changed location to where the pool
tables used to be which is fine. But they had a DJ on (I arrived at 1:30) in the
house room who was just terrible. Good song selection but could not mix to save
his life. Not his fault, it was his second ever gig. Twister should know better
than to put a new DJ on at that time. He should have the first opening set like
10-12. Not to mention i said "Max moose" at the door for $7 entry and the girl
pretended she had no idea what i was talking about. NOT HAPPY TWISTER!!

Thanks for sticking up for me, Wil. I'm allowed to go to a club and use the
venue for its conventional purpose (dancing!!). All I'm saying is, I think guys
should have a little more respect for the women and not think it's okay to just

Twister is usually good and not too sleazy. But on Saturday night I was totally
appalled! Girls dancing like lesbian sluts with the pole on the stage. There
was too much crap music between the good stuff (note to Twister, people are sick
of hearing crap like We Built This City and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun...funny
the first time...annoying from then onwards). If you like guys touching your
arse you should go there...I don't know what it is but it seems like the crowd
is getting more and more immature and men think they can just treat women like
objects. But then I guess you have to think about the music we're all dancing
to..in MOST of the songs there's some vocals where women are being portrayed as
property..or disrespected by men "won't stop til I get 'em in their birthday

Popped in to Twister on Saturday. Hadn't been for a while. Enormous queue when
we arrived. Fair crowd inside.
They've returned the main room to its full size. Young, mainstream crowd and
music in there. Many of them were there to see Christie from Big Brother (Kate
this week), although more were there for the party.
The techno room there has really taken off in the last few months. Its happy
pants heaven! A very popular room.
The RnB room hasn't really changed, aside from the addition of a photo booth.
Twister is still a classic. Its one of the best places anywhere when it comes to
multiple rooms with a variety of music, and when it comes to a party atmosphere.

Went to Twister last Sat and Twister has new plasma screens! It was a pretty
solid night. Reliable and large as you all know Twister is. The plasma screens
really add to the main room. Its like being in a 90s video clip. The techno and
RnB rooms were absolutely packed all night, and the new house room is growing
every week.
It is still the biggest party night Melbourne has to offer. How can you go wrong
with five rooms with top DJs?
