Hey party animals,
Vote in the ‘06 awards
Your votes are in and counted. Thanks to those who voted, the response
was huge. Its time to reveal what Melbourne’s most popular nights really
are, as voted by you, the party public...
Best Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Twister retains its crown! It maintained its lead, although Furnace Fri
stepped up to a close second. Blitz, Dakota and Billboard Sat and Wheelers
Thurs take honourable mentions.
Best Venue: Twister (The Palace)
Twister got up for this one too, after running second last year. Billboard
came in a solid second, with Furnace third. Frost Bites!, Blitz and
Marquee take honourable mentions.
Best Coverband: Adam12
Adam12 went back to back comfortably. Crazy Haus took second, just ahead
of 23 Past and Metrik. Pean polled well too.
Best Suburban Venue: Furnace
Furnace won this over The Wheelers. Blitz and Dakota performed well in 3rd
and 4th. The Pool Room was up there too.
Best Pub: The Hawthorn
The Hawthorn won this quite well. The Wheelers was a good 2nd ahead of The
Berwick Inn in 3rd. The Elephant & Wheelbarrow in StKilda was up there.
Best New Venue: Dale & Danny’s Blue
This was a two horse race, but D&D’s won clearly ahead of the rebadged and
rebranded Furnace.
Best Suburban Night: Thursday @ Wheelers with 23 Past (& Play-Doh)
This was a surprise. The Wheelers just shaded Furnace’s Fri to take the
prize. Dakota’s Sat was a strong 3rd ahead of Blitz’s Sat, Pool Room’s Thu
and Wed at the Edgy.
Best New Night: Friday @ Furnace with Adam12
New venue name, new crowd, new award. Dale & Danny’s Blue’s Sat and Thu
would be considered unlucky in 2nd & 3rd. Billboard’s Thu and Fri were
close too.
Best Uni Night: Jackass Thursday @ Frost Bites! with Metrik
Its finished now but Jackass won ahead of Pool Room’s Thu (Adam12).
Billboard’s Thu was the big jumper into 3rd ahead of Berwick Inn’s Tue(!).
Room’s Thu and Seven’s Thu were contenders too.
Best Band Night: Friday @ Furnace with Adam12
Furnace’s Fri won by a mile. Wheelers Thu with 23 Past (& formerly Play-
Doh) came second, with Dakota’s Sat (Pean) and Pool Room’s Thu (Adam12)
going well. Hawthorn Sat (23 Past) and Star Sun (Slumberyard) did okay.
Best Mainstream Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Billboards Sat pushed Twister all the way on this. Blitz Sat came in third
with Billboards Thurs and Furnace Fri polling strongly.
Best Retro Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
No surprise that Twister won this too. Room’s Tuesday jumped up to second
ahead of Marquee’s Fri and Sat.
Best RnB Night: Detention Centre, Friday @ Billboards
The new boys got up! They came home ahead of Heat’s Fri & Sat, then
Mercury Lounge’s Mothership Sunday.
Best House Night: One Love, Saturday @ Prince of Wales
Back to back for One Love. Seven’s Sat and Thurs challenged hard. Twister
and Billboard’s Thurs were in the mix.
Best Tek Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
The back room at Twister did it. It romped in ahead of Bubble and Bass
Station (Palace Fri). ZoS Sat and 21st Sat polled okay too.
Best Alternative Night: Switch, Saturday @ Caseys
Switch rose above the pack ahead of the now closed Goo Thurs at Metro.
Brown Alley’s Thurs picked up third.
Best Sunday Night: Star Bar with Slumberyard
Star romped it in to remain undefeated. Heat was a clear 2nd, with Geebung
jumping up the chart. Motel, Depot and Mercury deserve mentions.
Best Monday Night: Mercury Lounge Ugly’s Overtime with Adam12
Mercury Lounge home quite comfortably ahead of KGB in Knox! Bobby’s has
been closed for two years, but still came third! Seamus McPeakes and Heat
made up the numbers.
Best Tuesday Night: Casey’s/Cheers Toss the Boss
Casey’s won this easily over Room, with Berwick Inn coming a strong third.
Best Wednesday Night: The Edgy (Mentone Hotel)
The Edgy led home Frost Bites and Wild Bills (now closed). Arcadia picked
up late votes.
Best Thursday Night: The Wheelers
Gee, this was tight. The Wheelers just pipped the Pool Room. Seven came in
3rd ahead of Billboards.
Best Friday Night: Furnace with Adam12
Furnace smashed them. Frost Bites was 2nd, with Dakota (23 Past) moving
into 3rd. Billboards was in the votes too.
Best Saturday Night: Twister @ The Palace
Twister was well challenged by Billboards and Blitz, but was home safe.
Dale & Danny’s, Dakota (Pean) and Prince polled strongly too.
Classiest Night: Four way dead heat
No clear winner. Boutique’s Sat and Thu, Star’s Sun, and Billboards Sat
had equal support.
Best Looking Crowd: Thursday @ Seven
Seven’s Thu just scraped home ahead of Billboard’s Sat. Blitz’s and
Prince’s Sats were close, and Star Bar’s Sun was up there.
Best Place to Pick Up: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Twister won this strongly. Blitz Sat was a clear 2nd. Furnace Fri,
Billboard Sat and Caseys Tue were competitive.
Best New Coverband: 23 Past
This was a landslide. 23 Past won by a mile. Nobody else was close.
Most Improved Coverband: Play-Doh
Play-Doh have come a long way over the past year and you recognised it. 23
Past, Metrik and Huge were up there too, with industry legends Adam12 and
Crazy Haus still getting better.
Best Coverband Website: Adam12
Adam12 took this one too. 23 Past came in a good 2nd, ahead of Crazy Haus,
Pean and Metrik.
Best Venue Website: Frost Bites!
We’re modest, so we took the site we made for Dakota out. Frost Bites won
comfortably. Not many others polled well. Seven and Blue did okay.
Best DJ: Draw: Scotty E v Scott G
Heaps more votes this year and Scotty Erdos (Wheelers, Spy) and Scott
Gardner (Blitz and Level 1) couldn’t be separated. Matty G, Paul Bell,
John Course and Grant Smillie also polled strongly.
Best Bartender: Dan @ Blitz
Heaps of nominations here, but Dan had the most by a long way. Michelle at
Dakota came in second. Others with multiple votes were Kendall @ Dakota,
Candy @ The Wheelers, Casey @ Furnace, Emma @ Dakota, Leanne @ Star and
Bec @ Twister.
Best Bouncer: George @ The Wheelers
George @ The Wheelers won this by a good margin. He had competition from
Andy @ Billboards and Adam @ Level 1. Ky @ Frost Bites and Matty @ Blitz
polled well too.
Best End of Night Snack: Carlo’s Hotdogs @ Blitz
I’m not sure if he’s still there but Carlo took it again. Mulgrave Maccas
came in a close 2nd, with Vics in Frankston, Doveton Maccas and
Elsternwick Maccas polling well.
There wasn’t enough votes in the suggest a category area, but we’ll take
those up some suggestions next time. Daniel from Adam12 will be hoping we
include best band member.
Summary
Congratulations to our winners. Twister will be celebrating! They cleaned
up for the second time (two for two). Billboards, Furnace, Dale & Danny’s,
Dakota, The Wheelers, Seven and Blitz had big rises up the Moose charts.
Adam12 and 23 Past cleaned up the band awards.
