Was at Dakota to do the pics of Anna from Big Brother.
I like what they're doing with that night. They've decided to make it totally
different to Saturday and other night in the outer east by removing the band and
relying on two DJs.
Its house (and dancers) in the main room (the old white roof has been painted
black), and RnB in the side room. It works well. The DJs are good. The crowd is
a touch younger than Saturday.

Dropped by Dakota on Friday for a date with Jennifer Hawkins. She ditched the GP
Ball to have her photo taken with the crew at Club Dakota.
It was a pretty big night, but boy did we take a lot of photos (see the pics
pages).
Before she arrived I was thinking how great a place this would be for a single
person aged 22-30. It isn't an 18-21 crowd. Its a bit older, but the crowd is
normal - ie not pretentious or silly.
23 Past are coming along nicely as a band. Good steady step by step improvement.
They're probably in the top three or four bands in Melbourne now. A good party
mix - not bad at all. (Hillarious when Brunsy, the singer, jumps on a milk crate
to look Ms Hawkins in the eye for an interview).

enorously for several months. It will feature DJ Tate in the main room and Rob E
in the side room, and 23 Past live on stage. The Dakota Darlings will make their

Headed down to Dakota last Friday to do the photos of Dean for the Dakota
website (which are now online).
The crowd was the surprise. It was busy, and a good type of crowd in, similar
type of crowd to the Saturday crowd, but a touch smaller. The Fridays there have
grown enormously over the past few months.
Its a good night because of the entertainment. Tate Strauss in the main room
(commercial) and Rob E in the side room (RnB) are good DJs, and when you add the
band, 23 Past, you're on a winner.
23 Past are very, very impressive now. The music is great. They don't try to do
a whole set of commercial/pop music like bands do now. They do a few, but they
stick largely to classics and it works. They sound like the original, and they
get the crowd involved.
They've clearly studied top bands like Crazy Haus, but do it their own way and
have fun. They're really worth a look. They make it a very good night.

Dakota's new room, Electric Avenue opened last Friday for their first birthday,
so we dropped in for a look. The new room is pretty nice. It features a disco
styled flashing dancefloor and the room has generally been enhanced. It feels
fairly warm and is slightly more loungy.
The rest of the venue also looked good in beach theme. Plenty of people dressed
up and a few made good use of the spa.
On stage, Tarko were in pretty good form. They haven't yet developed a base
crowd in Ringwood, which is a bit of a surprise, given their support base
bayside.

Dakota is awesome! i've been going there for about a year now, i don't go every
week, but whenever i go i always have an awesome time! i went there last night
and also last friday night when saxon from big brother was there and got my
photo taken with him! it's a great place for people from the eastern suburbs to
go to coz gauranteed you will see people you know!
The music is very good also, but the best part on fridays is for the ladies,
free entry and free drinks till 10pm! woo hoo! Get down to dakota guys, love to
see some new faces down there!!

Dakota was up on normal on Friday, courtesy of the visit from Jo from Big
Brother. She'd partly lost her voice (all that talking Wednesday!), but was as
friendly as ever, and put the crowd in a very good mood.
Coverband Mojo aren't bad. Their playlist includes more classics than most,
which means you can sing and jump along. Scat, an 80s band, take their place
there August 1st.

Made it over to Dakota fairly late. Good crowd in. Plenty of fun to be had.
The new Catalina Bar is open. It is fairly loungy, and a good addition to the
club. It will be interesting to see how the outdoor seating area goes after
work.
Most of the gossip was about the Voodoo Surf Gods splitting up in a couple of
weeks time. The guys have earnt a decent break and will be missed.

Went to the launch of Dakota. Not a bad little suburban venue. Main room had DJ
Mikey (Brass/ex Bobbys) playing pop and commercial and the Voodoo Surf Gods loud
and alternative. The crowd was loving the tunes.
Side bar had DJ Rob E (ex East) with some real cool RnB. Very loungy, and a
great spot to relax.
Never went to Denim, so I can't make a comparison, but it is a nice and warm
looking venue. Not huge, but deceptive and easily large enough. The ice bar is a
something different.
Crowd primarily local, moderately relaxed and friendly, aged 19-25 with a few
either side. Should be a favourite for the locals. Had a very good vibe.
