Hey party animals,
Your votes are in and counted. Thanks to those who voted, the response
was huge. Its time to reveal what Melbourne’s most popular nights really
are, as voted by you, the party public...
Best Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Twister is clearly the choice. Honourable mentions to Depot Thu, Star Bar
Sun, Blitz Sat, Frost Bites! Wed and Frost Bites! Thu.
Best Venue: Frost Bites!
Frost Bites! was the winner with The Palace a close second. Spy Lounge,
The Depot, and Metro were contenders.
Best Coverband: Adam12
Adam12 romped it in. Crazy Haus were easily second, and Metrik and
Slumberyard polled strongly. Pean and Tarko also rate a mention.
Best Mainstream Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Twister won this one comfortably too. The Saturdays at Frost Bites!, Spy
Lounge and Billboards and Casey’s Tuesday were next.
Best Retro Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
No surprise that Twister won this too. Frost Bites! Friday was a strong
second, with Marquee’s Friday and Saturday and Room’s Tuesday going well.
Best RnB Night: Mothership, Sunday @ Mercury Lounge
This was the least popular category by far. Merc Lounge narrowly beat
Twister, Spy Lounge Sat, Next Blue Fri, Evolution Sat and Room Thu.
Best House Night: One Love, Saturday @ Prince of Wales
Another unpopular category, but dominated by One Love. Seven’s Saturday
was a credible second, and Star Bar’s Sunday third.
Best Tek Night: Saturday @ Bubble
Not a popular category with our commercial readership, but Bubble took
the prize over the tek room at Twister.
Best Alternative Night: Goo, Thursday @ Metro
Goo won by a mile, with Switch Saturdays at Casey’s polling second. Mostly
band nights after that.
Best Band Night: Friday @ Brass (closed to make way for Furnace) with Adam12
Brass Fri with Adam12 (which is now even bigger as Furnace) was a runaway
winner. Frost Bites! Thu (Metrik) was a credible second with Wild Bills
Wed (Crazy Haus), Frost Bites! Wed (Adam12) and Star Bar Sun (Slumberyard)
close in 3rd, 4th & 5th.
Best Uni Night: Jackass Thursday @ Frost Bites! with Metrik
Popular category, won comfortably by Frost Bites! Thu. Depot’s Thu with
Slumberyard was a strong 2nd. Surprisingly, Berwick Inn’s Tue came 3rd!
Next was Frost Bites! Wed and Seven’s Thu.
Best Suburban Night: Friday @ Brass (closed to make way for Furnace) with Adam12
Brass won this comfortably (and is even bigger now as Furnace). Other
credible nights were Edgy Wed, Blitz Sat, Mountain View Thu, Room Tue,
Volt Sat, Dakota Sat & Wild Bills Wed.
Best New Night: Jackass Thursday @ Frost Bites! with Metrik
Frost Bites! won this by a mile. Wax’s Fri was a solid second with Frost
Bites! Fri a comfortable 3rd. Saturdays at Blitz and Billboards polled ok.
Classiest Night: 5 way dead heat
Useless result. No clear choice. Boutique’s Thu and Sat, Star’s Sun, Frost
Bites! Wed and Seven’s Sat had votes.
Best Sunday Night: Star Bar with Slumberyard
Predictable result with Star polling four times the votes of second place,
Heat. Mercury Lounge, Depot and the Geebung were up there.
Best Monday Night: Mercury Lounge Ugly’s Overtime with Adam12
Mercury Lounge won this quite comfortably, but curiously, Bobby McGee’s
which has been closed for a year came 2nd, and Icon came 3rd. Odeon,
LouLous, Heat, and Laundry made up the numbers.
Best Tuesday Night: Casey’s/Cheers Toss the Boss
Casey’s won this easily over Room, with Berwick Inn coming a strong third.
Best Wednesday Night: Wild Bills with Crazy Haus
Bills was a clear winner over Frost Bites! and the Edgy.
Best Thursday Night: Frost Bites! Jackass with Metrik
Popular category, with Frost Bites! just pipping Depot (Slumberyard).
Metro (Goo), Room, Seven and the Wheelers also performed very strongly.
Best Friday Night: Draw: Brass (Adam12) & Frost Bites! (Crazy Haus)
Way out front, we couldn’t separate Brass and Frosties on this, although
Furnace is bigger on Fri now than Brass was. Wax and Spy Lounge came in
3rd and 4th, with Marquee in 5th.
Best Saturday Night: Twister @ The Palace
Back to form. Twister doubled second place, Spy Lounge. Blitz, Billboards,
Frost Bites! and the Essendon Grand polled well and Dakota, Marquee,
Prince and Seven deserve a mention.
Best New Venue: Blitz
Very tight and contentious result but Blitz scraped home over Wax and
Billboards. Bliss and Boutique polled ok too.
Best Suburban Venue: Brass (closed to make way for Furnace)
Brass (now Furnace) won this over Casey’s/Cheers and Blitz. Wild Bills,
Dakota, the Edgy and Room earn a metion.
Best Pub: The Depot
Very close category, but the Depot just shaded Bridie’s Brunswick,
Berwick Inn, StKilda Elephant & Wheelbarrow and the Edgy. Frosties,
Seamus McPeakes, Star Bar and Wheelers polled well too.
Best Website: Frost Bites!
Ummm! Thanks, but the sites we designed will have to be withdrawn so they
can’t win. Apologies to Wild Bills, Bobby McGee’s and Dakota, but we’ll
have to give it to Frost Bites! (which we had a bit to do with, but don’t
maintain). Perhaps Metro is unlucky, but it only polled a few votes.
Best New Coverband: Metrik
Its all about Metrik. They absolutely dominated this category.
Best Coverband Website: Adam12
Adam12 won easily, polling five times the votes of Crazy Haus’ website
and Slumberyard’s was a vote behind them. Metrik and Pean earn a mention.
Best DJ: Piero
Not many votes. People don’t know DJs. Piero won. Scotty E, Sam Dred,
Brad Sassman, John Course, Matty G, Scotty J and Keith Clarke scored
multiple votes. One Vinyl scored 1. Not bad for a bloke with one piece of
vinyl (same front and flipside).
Best Bartender: Daina @ Star and Depot
Daina won a close competition from Katie @ Star, Kerry @ Wild Bills, Dan
@ Rush and Adam & Gerry @ Frost Bites!
Best Bouncer: BJ @ Wild Bills
Another really close one, but BJ @ Wild Bills wins. Cara @ Room, Justin
@ Frost Bites!, Luke @ Blitz and Matt @ Depot were close.
Best End of Night Snack: Carlo’s Hotdogs @ Blitz
Not many votes, but Carlo’s Hotdogs clearly won. Lambs on Chapel came a
close 2nd, with hotdogs at Marquee, KFC Chapel St and Doveton McDonalds
polling well. :-p
There wasn’t enough votes in the suggest a category area, but we’ll take
those up some suggestions next time.
Summary
Well there you go. That’s a lot of categories, but very deserving winners,
and all the result of your votes (except the websites).
It was a huge night for Twister and Frost Bites! and Adam12, cleaning up
the major categories. Brass (Furnace) would have to be happy too.
