Went along to the Grand Final of Miss University and the University Bachelor of
the year at Silvers last Thursday. Not a bad night. The night was strongly
focused on the two competitions, with the new downstairs room full during the
show.
The photos from the event are being uploaded as I type, and they are worth a
look.

Silvers launches Beat the Clock tonight (Thursday 31.1.02). It's a uni night with a twist.
The 1st 15 mins of each hour pots and basic spirits are free, 2nd 15 mins its $1 pots and $2 basics, last 1/2 hour is $1.50 pots and $3.50 basics. Look out!
DJs are Piero (ex Blush), Dave, Chris S, Tim G (Detour), & Dallas (Seven). Sounds good to me!

NOTE: Blush came to an end earlier this year when the promoters basically retired. It has now been replaced by Plastic, and is organised by the other half of the crew that ran the original Lipstick @ Redhead. The following review is of Blush (5.12.01)...

About three years ago, Silvers Thursday was one of the big nights on the uni circuit. It was the place for a young commerce student to be, but then Lipstick @ Redhead became big and took its place. 1999, Redhead is gone, and the battle was on for the crowd. My money was on Silvers, because it is a great venue, and the Redhead DJs and promos crew started running Blush there. My predictions were right.

Since it opened in March, it has steadily grown (with a bit of help from MAX), and is once again one of the premier Thursday nights in Melbourne. The crowd is made up of the regulars from Silvers and Redhead. It is a classy, fashionable, well behaved, uni crowd. One of the better ones going around.

I must have arrived before 11. At that stage it was starting to get busy. It was pumping by about 11.30, long queues are the norm.

Silvers is a two room, two level venue, with plenty of black and mirrors, creating a classy bar upstairs, and club downstairs. You enter into the upstairs bar. It is a long narrow bar. At the far end is a stage and elevated dancefloor, with good lighting, and a chandelier or two. Jeff Tyler, Tom Campbell and Stuart Allen play what is best described as old techno and current tek-house music from the right of the dancefloor. Lots of people wearing cargos and airwalks in here. The people and music are very reminiscent of Super (Thursdays @ Seven). Along the left wall, up to the dancefloor is a great looking bar. On the right wall are some booths for sitting around in. Just to the left of the entrance are the stairs to the basement.

Downstairs, is what you imagine a club to look like. Pretty dark, lots of mirrors, a pumping sound system, great dancefloor lighting, and a huge dancefloor. Piero, from the Redhead marquee, and Big Dave play commercial classics. They sit on the back edge of the dancefloor, and there are two bars, one each side of the dancefloor. Additionally, the newly renovated Jac's bar plays chill out music for you to relax to. Blush would feature the most diverse range of music on a Thursday night in Melbourne.

You get all of this for $7 or $5 entry with a pass. There are also some great drink prices with $1 pots, $2.50 spirits before midnight; $1.50 pots and $4 spirits after midnight; $3 selected beers and $10 shakers all night. You also get great entertainment, and a great crowd.

This is once again one of the premier uni nights in Melbourne. They have taken the heart of Redhead’s Lipstick, and transplanted it into Silvers. Quality entertainment for a quality crowd, in a good venue.
