LevelOne was good last nite, great venue and really pretty decorations with the
chandeliers, stars and fairy lights. Good music, wouldn't bother getting there
til 11:30 at the earliest cuz it's dead before then and only stays reasonably
busy for about 2 hours. Good thing entry was free at around 10 cuz I wouldn't
spend the whole night there again..toss the boss before 11 is always good
though!

Dropped into the Palace to take some pics on Saturday - its very
good.
Its essentially a three room venue.
Upstairs is the nightclub, LevelOne. Its two rooms. The larger room has cool
commercial house tunes courtesy of DJ Tate Strauss, and the smaller room plays
RnB. Both were pretty busy.
Its a very nice looking club - old styled room with clever paint and lighting to
modernise it.
It was a good looking crowd. Mostly 21-25 and dressed trendy. Its the people
that used to go to Cheers on Tuesday but have outgrown it.
Downstairs is the Rob Thomas trio playing accoustic covers. Its a genuine pub
room. Plenty of places to sit and drink beer, and room around the band to dance.
There's a DJ playing a wide range between trio sets.
There's something for everyone in there, and its all good. The pics should be up
some time today, so take a look at those and definitely check out the venue for
yourself.

Saturday's @ the Palace Camberwell are once again PUMPING. The venue has been
completly renovated with a new Saturday night called "Tonic". The resident DJ
which I believe is DJ Paul B Rocks from 9pm til 3am, playing Top 40, Techno and
plenty of RnB.
Not only myself and friends but many,many others have found a great Saturday
night and it's called Tonic.

I have a friend who swears by the Palace, because it is just down the road from where he works, and used to live. I had never ventured there until one of those nights where nobody wanted to go anywhere, except for Stewie going to the Palace. I thought I had better check it out. It is a good night, but its strength is clearly that it is a local for the people of Camberwell.

Being a local, the crowd comes from some of Melbourne’s wealthier suburbs, resulting in a pretty classy crowd. Most are well dressed, although good jeans and a trendy t-shirt are the go for guys, but you might dress up a bit more for the nightclub.

The crowd is friendly, and less cliquey than most local venues. I suppose this is because most of them are aged 20+. Most of them were in by midnight, when we arrived, suggesting they arrived before 11, peaking at about 1.30. By then it was really busy, with good crowds in both the pub and club.

That is what makes the Palace different. It is a pub, with a nightclub upstairs. There is no charge for the pub, but you have to pay to get into the club, even though it is all in the one venue. Downstairs is the pub, complete with band and DJ. The band play pub, party and retro classics, which is more or less the style of the DJ too. Plenty of songs to sing along to, whilst you sit down and sink a beer or two with your mates.

You enter off Burke Rd. To the right is some seating, a hotdog guy, and the stage for the DJ & band. The bar is at the back, and it is huge. To the left are the stairs to the nightclub. There is no dancefloor or club lighting downstairs, but plenty of that upstairs.

Upstairs is a reasonably classy club. To the left of the stairs is a chill-out room with bar, seating and a pool table. To the right of the stairs is the L-shaped nightclub. There is a foyer areas near the stairs, with seating and standing room. Beyond that is one of the coolest looking bars your will see. It has heaps of neon, and wicked bubbling light tubes.

The long part of the L-shape is the dancefloor. It is divided into three sections. At the top is a stage with DJ booth. It is only accessible from the middle section, which is the part of the dancefloor with the pumping sound system, cool lightshow, and podiums. The third part is for the overflow from the dancefloor. There was a lot of this, resulting from a good mix of ‘90s commercial dance, with a touch of party, R&B, and house music thrown in.

I cannot say much about the drink prices, because I was driving again, but the guys didn’t seem to complain. I also don’t know what it cost to go upstairs, but a pass is ½ price, and its popularity suggests the price is good. Entry to the pub was definitely free.

I enjoyed the Palace, but I suspect the locals like it even more, because they would all know each other. This is the benefit of suburban clubs. Its classy feel and crowd are not easily found in pubs these days, and the quality of the entertainment was good.
