It seems that the Palace Theatre (ex Metro, now owned by the former owners of The Palace in St Kilda) might be opening up as a club on Saturday nights again after all. Something to do with Eskimo. We'll keep you posted.

Nicole, I didn't go in, but Metro had a huge queue on Saturday. I know it was
very busy inside, but it was a special event. Other reports on this site tell us
that its general going well.

Well, it's definitely back, live and kicking. I went there sat night and the
line went around the corner down an alley. I gave up on waiting and went to a
nearby pub instead.

Last week, Curious asked if Metro was reopening. We found something in The Age
about that, saying it was. After a lot of digging around, we're told it did open
on Saturday. A very low key reopening, but apparently it went okay. It was only
in the main room. If anyone was there or is promoting the place, please let us
know about it.

Metro nightclub has now completely shut down. The Saturday night is no more.
Rumour is it will be renovated, and only open for special events like Joe,
Pharmacy & Deep Dish for the next few months.

the drink prices are cheap and the music is good. theres three levels it's

Metro was the final destination for night. I love this place. It is sooo grand,
and has the sort of presence that only the world's great venues can have. The
DJs were up on stage for a nice change, and cranked out the hits. The Wickid
Force Breakers did a fine job too.
The rebar was home to karaoke. All the photos will be up very shortly.

Somewhere along the way, I caught a whisper that Metro is about to change its
upstairs Saturday line-up. Word was that upstairs is about to go all RnB, like
it was in the old days, but with RnB even in the Rebar. I'll try to find some
confirmation.

Ventured to Metro for the first time in ages. I love that place. First club I
ever liked. It is one of the grandest venues on the planet. Definitely worth a
look if you haven't been there because it is world-class.
Saturday was pretty good. Downstairs was very busy (and an attractive crowd)
with DJ greats like Piero and Phil Ross and a good MC calling the shots.
Upstairs was a bit quieter for the trial of the two rooms of house tunes
(although the Gods Bar was verging on techno). Those rooms should build as word
gets out.

Easily the biggest, and one of the best nights in Melbourne, Pop has something
for everyone. The place, as you all know, is absolutely massive - if it's your
first time, then it will take your breath away, believe me!
Recently, the crowd has started thinning a bit, which is good because there's
more room on the dancefloor... but summer is approaching and pretty soon the
place is gonna be kicking. With one of Melbourne's best young coverbands
(Slumberyard), pumping R&B, a breathtaking laser show all night long... along
with just about everything else, Metro is definitely the place to be on Saturday
night.

Metro used to be a theatre, and thus, it is absolutely huge (I am fairly sure it was the biggest club in the southern-hemisphere before QBH, and in the top two or three in the world), with numerous rooms. These include the main room, which is the biggest dancefloor anywhere, with DJs playing pop/party and retro; the rebar - a restaurant bar with heaps of tables and great cover band Load, supported by DJ Tom of Goo fame; the Gods Bar with a deep RnB mix from a smooth DJ. There are other areas dedicated as ‘chill-out’ spaces, with heaps of seating, pool tables, video games, and plenty of bars. The main room even has a huge stage which is sometimes graced by a touring artist.
The crowd is very mixed, full of new clubbers aged 18 to 19, but with plenty of 23-25 year olds. This tends to mean people are finding their feet, and seem to be fairly nervous. It builds up fairly early. The dance floors stay at capacity, but there is very little meeting as people stay in their groups. Dress varies markedly with good jeans the order of the night for guys.
