This has to be one of the best cover bands in Melbourne. Dale Ryder (ex Boom Crash Opera) can really work up the crowd and knows how to get everyone to enjoy themselves.
They usually come on stage at about 11:00-11:30 pm after some commercial dance has been playing, starting up with a well known favourite to get the crowd going.
The band caters for an audience that likes well known anthems of the past and present. There is a lot of 80's and early 90's stuff, and the bands covered vary from Jamiroquai to Savage Garden, Queen to Alanis Morrisette. They usually do two sets of about an hour each with more commercial dance between.
Dale (the lead singer) always plays up to the crowd with his great sense of humour and gives everyone a chance to be part of the show. The girls all look forward to when they are able to jump on to the stage for a rendition of the Jackson 5’s, “Blame it on the Boogie” and there is always a hen’s night happening, where the lucky bride to be gets a fabulous send up of “What’s new Pussycat” sung to her.
The crowd plays to a varied audience of Europeans and Australians, and the music serves to entertain the crowd, giving something different to all tastes.
All in all, a fabulous band, a must to check out. Look out for Boom Crash Opera’s, “Onion Skin”, where the crowd goes off. Oh and don’t forget to listen for what would be the best rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” in Melbourne.

Thursday @ Frostbites (Feb 17 ‘00)
The Dale Ryder Band is now playing (and I think have been for a while) Thursday nights @ Frostbites, and are completely unbelievable. How the one band is able to successfully pull off covers of "Shake ya bon bon" (Ricky Martin), "Crazy" (Britney Spears), and "I Try" (Macy Gray) is beyond me... but they do.
