Now they're considering a 3am lockout instead. Info.

ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER BACKFLIP!
Today, the highly confused, panicked or just plain stupid Brumby Government is considering a 3am lockout instead. See the H.S. article here and maybe write a letter to the MPs using THE SYSTEM BELOW.

Recent... (4/8/08)

Good news folks. Dictator Brumby has been defeated. The 2am lockout has been abandoned. It will end next month. Thanks and well done to everyone involved in the campaign - you guys, the Greens and Liberals. Special congratulations to Andrew Ranger, Cameron Hill, David Butten and Carlo Colosimo for their work.

Don't think we'll forget this Mr Brumby! You owe Melbourne's clubbers, especially those assaulted due to your policy, a big apology.

If you want more info on the lockout ending, take a look at this article in the Herald Sun.

Older News...

This page has been thrown together because time is of the essence. We'll pretty it up later, but it works.

The campaign needs to continue, even though there's virtually no lockout now because VCAT has exempted over 100 venues (we struggle to name 100 venues in the lockout areas). The campaign has to continue so the Government doesn't try to reinstate the lockout as they've suggested.

Public opinion is definitely turning against the 2am lockout, and we want that shift to continue.

We'd prefer you to write to the papers now instead of MPs, to continue to convince the public, but its your call...

Petition:

There's a petition available here. Ignore the return date. Just get some signatures together and send it in.

Letter Campaign:

Its up to you. Do as many of the following as you like.
1. Write to your local paper (most important now)
2. Write specifically to your MP (important) (Lower House Members List / Upper House Members List)
3. Write to all MPs about the trouble on the first weekend

Letters to local papers

Things to consider:

1. Ultimately all that matters is that you write something (so ignore these suggestions if they bug you).
2. Whatever you write needs to convince people (like your parents) that a lockout is dangerous, not going to work, poor policy, or whatever else you believe.
3. Short, sharp letters are far more likely to be published and read.
4. You need to include your name and address, and preferably a contact number.
